Some weddings just feel like they belong in a certain space, and Lexie & TK’s celebration in the Tudor Ballroom at Hotel Kansas City was exactly that. The rich architecture of the venue (on of our favorite hotel wedding venues in Kansas City) paired beautifully with their bold red color palette, and the entire day was a mix of easygoing joy, family traditions, and a little bit of party magic.

Before the wedding day, Lexie & TK’s story already had its share of sweet quirks. They worked with Goldmakers Jewelry to design Lexie’s ring, and TK had planned to propose on a trip to California. But when he finally got the finished ring back from the jeweler, patience wasn’t in the cards — he ended up proposing the very next morning while Lexie was getting ready for work. Not glamorous, as Lexie laughed, but absolutely perfect for them.

The couple got ready separately at Hotel Kansas City. While Hallie joined just before the ceremony, Lexie’s glam team brought an easy, joyful energy to the morning. Lexie looked stunning in her gown, paired with chic Nomasei shoes, and TK was sharp in his suit.

Guests gathered in the Tudor Ballroom, where Lexie & TK chose to keep things simple, heartfelt, and personal. Before the ceremony began, the couple had a sweet balcony hideaway moment, waiting together while everything came together downstairs.

Their ceremony itself included a Native song and gift exchange, a meaningful nod to TK’s heritage and a highlight of the day. It was intimate, emotional, and above all, completely true to who they are.

Afterward, guests flowed onto the balcony for cocktail hour. With gorgeous summer light and views of downtown Kansas City, it was the perfect transition into the celebration. Lexie & TK prioritized good music, and DJ Maxx Gruv set the tone right from the start with relaxed, fun energy.

Inside the Tudor Ballroom, Anne Thorne transformed the space with bold, red-hued florals accented by fruit — grapes, plums, and even tomatoes — incorporated into the centerpieces. It was a striking, fresh take that worked beautifully against the venue’s dark wood and historic details.

Dinner kicked off with a welcome from Lexie’s dad, followed by heartfelt toasts that had the whole room laughing and tearing up. Guests enjoyed catering and bar service by the hotel, and later indulged in a cake from Cleo & Leo.

For their first dance, they kept things sweet and simple and after that, the father/daughter dance had everyone smiling. Afterwards, the party truly began. With DJ Maxx Gruv keeping the floor packed, the night was a joyful blur of dancing, laughter, and memory-making.

Guests also loved the photo booth, which added a playful element to the evening and gave everyone a keepsake.

Lexie & TK chose to focus on mostly documentary-style photography — meaning very few posed portraits and almost entirely candid coverage. Hallie Sigwing captured the raw emotion of the day so beautifully. From the quiet moments to the loud dance floor energy, every photo felt real, timeless, and true to who Lexie & TK are as a couple.

This wedding was extra special for me, since I first met Lexie through her cousin’s wedding a few years back. Her family told me then that she’d be getting engaged soon and that she had to reach out when it happened — so I was thrilled when she did. Being able to come back and work with their family again felt like such a gift.

Lexie & TK’s day was easygoing, joyful, and delightful from beginning to end. The bold red palette, the laughter that carried through the Tudor Ballroom, and the personal touches made it a wedding that guests (and I!) won’t forget anytime soon.

There are so many reasons to love hotel weddings! Downtown Kansas City can be busy in the evenings, and parking is a hot commodity. By keeping your ceremony, reception, and guest accommodations all in one place, you minimize the need for transportation, decrease the likelihood of delays, and also make things much easier for out of town guests!
