Kendall and Miles’ wedding day at Mission Theatre felt joyful from the very beginning. The historic theater sits just outside Kansas City and brings plenty of personality on its own. Think art deco details, a dramatic stage, and—best of all—the marquee out front. On this particular day, it displayed Kendall and Miles’ names.

Both Kendall and Miles spent the morning getting ready on-site with their favorite people. The venue’s built-in suites made the early part of the day relaxed and easy. Kendall got ready with her bridesmaids while Miles and his groomsmen settled in nearby. Meanwhile, the energy slowly built as everyone realized the day had finally arrived.
Kendall looked stunning. Truly. The best way to describe her is goddess-like. She paired her gown with a pearl necklace and earrings that belonged to her grandmother, which added a quiet, sentimental touch to her look.

Miles wore a dark grey suit, while the wedding party leaned into a classic navy palette. Meanwhile, the florals added depth and warmth to the overall design. Deep red blooms mixed with soft greenery created a slightly garden-inspired feel. The rich color palette felt romantic and timeless inside the theater’s dramatic interior.

Before the ceremony, Kendall shared a first look with her dad. It was one of those moments that instantly softens the room. Then she met Miles for their first look on the stage. They also took time for private vows, which ended up being one of their favorite memories from the entire day.

Private vows are such a grounding moment. The day moves quickly, but this gave them space to pause and connect before everything officially began.

Afterward, we moved right into portraits. They knocked out wedding party photos and family photos ahead of the ceremony. That decision made the rest of the day feel much more relaxed and gave them more freedom later.

Soon enough, guests began filling the theater seats.

The ceremony itself was simple and heartfelt. Kendall and Miles chose a secular ceremony that kept the focus on their commitment and the people surrounding them. From the stage, they could see a full room of family and friends who had gathered to celebrate with them.

Later, Kendall shared that one of her favorite parts of the day was simply seeing everyone in one place.
“It really makes you appreciate the time you have with everyone,” she said.

After the ceremony, guests headed to cocktail hour in the lobby while the room was partially flipped for the reception. This is also when one of the most talked-about moments of the day happened.
Kendall cut her hair.
And not just a trim.

She went from mid-back length to a shoulder-length cut right in the middle of cocktail hour. Guests had no idea it was coming, which made the reactions even better. The cheers, the surprise, the photos—it turned into a spontaneous celebration inside an already celebratory day.
Meanwhile, behind the scenes, we were finishing a quick design transition. Kendall had a mirror that started the day as a welcome sign. Before the reception, it needed to become the seating chart.
My original plan was to start swapping it during the ceremony. However, Kendall and Miles’ ceremony was so efficient that I suddenly found myself racing the clock. I ended up pulling the mirror into a tiny utility closet off the lobby so my team and I could finish rearranging the seating assignments. We were laughing the entire time as we stuck names onto the mirror and hoped no one opened the door mid-project.
It all worked out perfectly.

Soon after, the reception kicked off with a lively grand entrance. Kendall and Miles followed their wedding party into the room, then shared a quick thank-you with their guests before dinner began. Premier Catering KC served a buffet that gave everyone a chance to settle in and catch up.

Once dinner wrapped up, the evening shifted into celebration mode.

Toasts brought both laughter and a few happy tears. Kendall and Miles shared their first dance, followed by sweet parent dances. Then the dance floor opened—and it stayed packed.

Levity Events kept the music fun and energetic all night, while guests jumped in and out of the booth from KC Photo Booth Co.

At one point, Kendall and Miles slipped over to their cake table for an informal, unannounced cake cutting. Instead of a traditional tiered cake, they chose a small bundt cake for themselves along with individual bundtlets from Nothing Bundt Cakes for guests.
It felt perfectly low-key and very them.

Looking back, Kendall shared that timing was one of the things she stressed about most while planning. Naturally, everything ran smoothly.
“Sofi completely took everything over in the best way,” she said. “Every time I came to her with a question or concern, it was already solved.”
One thing she would do differently? Spend more time at cocktail hour.
If that’s a priority for you, it’s absolutely possible. A first look, minimal post-ceremony photos, and a slightly longer cocktail hour can create more space to actually talk with your guests.
At the end of the day, though, Kendall and Miles created exactly what they hoped for: a meaningful celebration surrounded by the people they love most.
And honestly, that’s always the goal.
