Alana and Josh had the most relaxed and nontraditional wedding at The Yellow Rock Barn at Messner Bee Farm in Kansas City. It was a rainy October day, but hey, rain on your wedding day is good luck, right? Alana and Josh embraced it with open arms. The barn provided the perfect backdrop for their unique, relaxed, and personal vibe.
Their engagement began on Mother’s Day 2022. Josh, being the crafty guy he is, orchestrated a family picnic near Liberty Memorial. Slap’s BBQ in hand, he convinced the kids to dress nice for “family pictures.” Little did Alana know, she was in for the surprise of a lifetime. After a delicious meal, in a beautiful spot, Josh got down on one knee. Alana’s camera was set up for family pictures, but it captured a moment she’ll never forget. The smiles, the “yes,” and the journey to forever had officially begun.
Fast forward to the big day. The morning of their wedding was nothing short of cozy and intimate as Alana and Josh opted to get ready at their own home. Alana, surrounded by her sweet family, slipped into her first dress, a cute white mini. Meanwhile, Josh was in another corner of the house, likely exchanging laughs with his crew and soaking in the pre-wedding excitement. Getting ready at home added a personal touch to the day, creating a relaxed atmosphere that set the tone for the love-filled celebration awaiting them. It was a snapshot of genuine moments, shared in the familiar space where their journey as a couple had unfolded.
Now, let’s talk about the timeline. Forget the traditional order of events. Alana and Josh shook things up. The day kicked off with a pre-ceremony cocktail hour featuring comedian Matthew Rich. Laughter echoed through the barn, setting the tone for the laid-back celebration ahead.
And speaking of celebration, there were three moments that stole the show. First, the comedian’s hilarious bits and Alana’s sister sharing embarrassing stories had everyone in stitches. Second, the epic group hug at the end – a perfect way to wrap up the day with love. Last but not least, the unplanned aisle dance after the cake cutting, fueled by a Beetlejuice soundtrack. Spontaneous and totally them.
Behind the scenes, the Philosofi Celebrations team was making moves. In Alana’s words: “Everything. “Sofi took care of me as soon as I got to the venue – she took care of a lot. I will never forget her heart. We had requested a specific non-dairy pizza that didn’t arrive and she went out of her way to grab me dinner. She didn’t have to do that. I also was amazed at how she transformed the venue with all the details. It was a beautiful space!”
100/100 – would hire again.
I knew that hiring a wedding planner wasn’t just a want, but an absolute NEED for us (for me, really). And once that decision was made, I went to all my trusty wedding vendor friends and read all of their vendor recommendations and found Sofi.
The moment we had our first call to the day of, Sofi was a gem! On our initial call she asked what my budget was and details/vision of our day and recommended what service we should go with – there was NO pressure at all.
Working with Sofi, I felt like I had someone in my corner. She was there if/when I needed her. I also appreciated the reminder emails she would send out to help keep us on track!
Our day would not have been as perfect as it was without her. From start to finish, utter perfection. Even with the little snaffoo with the caterer, Sofi made sure I got something to eat (lactose intolerance brides IYKYK).
Hiring Sofi and getting to know her was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Wonderful human all around!
Alana, bride
So here’s to Alana and Josh, to love that laughs in the face of rain, dances spontaneously, and embraces the unexpected. May your journey together be as unique and beautiful as your wedding day. Cheers to forever! 🥂💕
